Debra Lynn (Gross) Heisserer, age 66, of Jackson, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on October 28, 2025. She was born November 1, 1958, in Alton, IL, to the late Wayne and Carol (Gold) Gross.
Debra was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister who poured her heart into her family. She shared many years with the father of her children, James Scherer, and later married the love of her life, the late Eugene Heisserer.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Scherer of Jackson, MO; daughters, Amy (Garry) Stone of Jackson, MO, and Elizabeth Penny (Eugene Larry) of Cape Girardeau, MO; brother, Todd (Becky) Gross of Perryville, MO; sisters, Bonnie (Jack “The Man” L’Homme) Davenport of Orange Park, FL, and Janet (Randy) Cattron of Jackson, MO; grandchildren, Ryan (Kylie), Brayden (Annie), Jody (Tony), Lacie (Jason), Angel (Keith), Dylan (Jess), Bailee, and Audrey; great-grandchildren, Allie, Sophia, Emma, Cody, Kyson, Kaden, Jackson, Tate, Macie, Kylie, and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Eugene Heisserer.
Debra was a Scott City High School graduate who later became and a realtor in the Poplar Bluff area. Debra spent many years lovingly caring for her disabled granddaughter, a role she embraced wholeheartedly and called her greatest blessing. She enjoyed quiet moments working puzzles, tending her garden which was her cherished “me time”, and watching crime and mystery shows. In her younger years, she loved helping on the farm and raising cattle, and she never missed a good game of BINGO. Debra and Eugene owned and operated their own business in Wappapello and Debra attended Broadway United Methodist Church for several years, where her faith was a steady source of strength until illness kept her home.
Arrangements are being handled by Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO. The family will be holding a private service at a later date.
