Dennis Wayne Willis, 71, of Marble Hill, passed away on March 16, 2026, at the St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on July 18, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Elmus Willis and Ethel Miles. Dennis was a 1972 Woodland High School graduate.
On May 10, 1980, Dennis and Pam Fisher were united in marriage. Over their 45 years together, they raised a wonderful family, experienced many adventures and stood beside each other throughout the journey. Dennis’ family was a central part of his life. He deeply loved his wife and children and later enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He cherished the family gatherings, including fish frys and their annual Halloween hayride. He had a naturally ability to capture the attention of everyone around him whenever he began telling stories. He also had a passion for hunting and fishing.
Mr. Willis began his career in law enforcement in October of 1987. He was drawn to becoming an officer, following the footsteps of his father who had served as the town marshall. Dennis first worked as a dispatcher for Bollinger County Sheriff’s office until graduating from the police academy in 1988. After completing the academy, he served for several years as a deputy sheriff. In the early 90’s, Dennis continued his law enforcement career with the Marble Hill Police Department as a city police officer. His passion for helping others and serving his community led him to run for Sheriff in 1996. He was elected and proudly served as the Bollinger County Sheriff until 2000. Following his term as sheriff, Dennis returned to the Marble Hill Police Department, where he served as Chief of Police until his retirement in 2012. His dedication to law enforcement and commitment to serve, remained unmatched for decades as he was always willing to help those in need.
