Edward James VanGennip, 94 of Overland, Missouri, passed away on January 9, 2026, at his home. He was born in Lutesville on June 22, 1931, to the late Martin H. and Rose (Heimsath) VanGennip.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. Following his honorable military service, he was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 338 in Overland, Missouri. He was employed with St. Louis Millwork Company until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and rarely missed the opportunity to watch them play. He also had a fondness for classic westerns, with Gunsmoke being his favorite.
He is survived by his daughter: Debbie Main; sister-in-law: Wilma VanGennip; granddaughter: Reba (Malachi) Hoover. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Martin Jr. (Jane), John, Theodore and Henry VanGennip; sister: Rose Marie (Alfred) Laurentius.
Services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri.
Visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 am.
Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, with Fr. Vincent Joseph officiating. Burial will follow at Baker Cemetery near Marble Hill, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Randy Laurentius, Dennis James, Phil Cantoni, Nick Cantoni, Jim Laurentius, Stephen Litchfield, and Matt Pobst. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Laurentius and Rick Laurentius.
