Eldon Ray Atchison, 70, of Grassy, passed away on March 18, 2024, at his home. Ray was born on August 30, 1953, to the late Eldon and Madine (Welker) Atchinson, in Cape Girardeau.
Ray was a jack of all trades and a man of many talents. He spent his younger years working for his dad at the hardware store, then to working on the riverboat as a deckhand, where he spent many hours fishing on the side. He then worked as an electrician for Delwin Wilkinson and later started working for himself. Ray spent his last years of his career as a truck driver.
Ray and Patricia Ann Gibson were married on September 18, 1971, in Wood River, IL, at the Wood River Assembly of God. He and Pat raised two children, Tanya and Barney, during their 52 years of marriage. He loved spending time with his family and sitting on the front porch watching the birds, especially the martins. Ray really enjoyed watching his son, grandson and son in law, at the lawnmower races and going on SXS rides.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years: Patricia Atchison of the home; one son: Barney (Missy) Atchison; one daughter: Tanya (Michael Wyatt) Atchison; three sisters: Glenda (Jack) Camp, Anita (Dennis) Sneed, Ruth Atchison; five grandchildren: Gavin, Audrey, Isabella Atchison, Tristan Ricketts, Alyssa Wyatt, Lacey Wilkinson; two great grandchildren: Mia and Katie Whitener and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew: Brian Reader.
Pallbearers: Gavin, Ruth Atchison, Michael Wyatt, Harley Storie, Roy Gibson Jr., and Roger Gibson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tristan Ricketts.
Services will be held at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Bro. Allen Lutes officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Scopus, MO.
