Fern Ellen Schreckenberg, 73, of Leopold, Mo., died January 19, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Born in Benton, Mo., on April 3, 1948, she was the daughter of Wayne and Oma Zena Hopkins Diamond. She and Pat G. Schreckenberg were married on July 16, 1966. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2018.
Fern retired from Dana Corporation where she worked as a line operator. For many years she worked at
the Marble Hill Hat Factory. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Leopold, serving as a Eucharistic minister.
She is survived by three children: Wayne (Lisa) Schreckenberg of Leopold, Terry (Kristine) Schreckenberg of Chaffee, Mo., and a daughter, Diane Pobst of Oran, Mo; by a sister, Norma Kidd, and a niece, Kim Coffman, both of St. Louis; by five grandchildren: Shane and Aaron Hodges, Blake and Trey Schreckenberg and Drew Pobst; and by two great-grandchildren: Mason and Rhonnie Hodges.
Her husband and a brother, Larry Diamond, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold following the service. Hutchings Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
