Helen Lucille Hampton, 95, of Patton, MO, passed away March 24, 2023 at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born on July 31, 1927 to the late Dale and Ruby (Dolle) Conrad in Sedgewickville, MO. Helen was a 1944 graduate from Patton High School.
Helen and Murrell “Cotton” Hampton were united in marriage in May of 1946 in Cape Girardeau, MO. Cotton preceded her in death in 1995 in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was of the Presbyterian faith, and was a past member of the Whitewater Presbyterian Church. Helen was a strong republican to say the least. She was very musically inclined. Helen loved to play music; she played piano when she was young at her church. She was later paid to play piano and organ for weddings, parties, and lounges. Helen and her late husband Cotton played together and while she played the piano, he played the upright bass. She liked to play darts and her favorite card game was Pinochle. She was also known for her love of English bulldogs.
Survivors include: two sons: Bruce Hampton of Patton, MO, Stephen (Victoria) Hampton of Kenai, Alaska; six grandchildren: Stephanie Hampton, Tyra Hampton, Cher Shaw, Emily Smallwood, Will Yount, Elisabeth Hayer; two great-grandchildren: Rylie and Christian Shaw; three nephews: Mike and Larry Hampton, Wayne Johnson; four nieces: Carol Ann Lehman, Sue Allen, Marilyn Chapman, and Tammy Kerns.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers: Dean and Keith Conrad; three sisters: Ruth Barks, Irene White, Juanita Johnson; two nieces: Karen Statler, Jennifer Faries; and one nephew: Gary Barks.
Helen chose cremation for her final wishes. She will be interred at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska, next to her husband Cotton.
There will be no services. The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO will assisting in carrying out her final wishes.
