James Junior Dowd of Glen Allen, Missouri, was born to earthly life near Marquand, Mo., on March 29, 1931. Surrounded by his wife and children, he was born into eternal life from his home on January 6, 2022.
James was the son of the late James Lawrence and Mabel Viola Yount Dowd. As a young child he learned to work by picking cotton and sawing logs. By the age of eleven he had his own cross-cut saw.
When he felt called to the ministry, he knew he had to study the written word. James learned how to read by studying the Bible. He was a carpenter and floor covering installer. He was a member of Apostolic Heritage Church.
James and Nellie Ruth Simmons were united in marriage on April 4, 1952. To their union six children were born: James Howard Dowd, Ivan Dowd, Mark Dowd, Richard Dowd; Vineta Strand and Donna Wilson.
Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two brothers: C.J. James and Bill Joe James; two sisters: Norma Kalal and Colleen Cook; 27 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William James, and a sister, Audrey Hanners.
Visitation will be at Heritage Apostolic Church at Glen Allen on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 9, 2022, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Ivan Dowd, Dan Stephens, and Leroy Young will officiate. Burial will follow in McGee Chapel Cemetery near Glen Allen.
