James "Jim" Warren Thompson, age 92, of Jackson, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2025, after a few years long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on December 29, 1932, in Longtown, Missouri, to the late Sylvester and Anna (McDonald) Thompson.
On June 7, 1970, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce (Barker) Thompson, in Lutesville, Missouri. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, family, and friendship.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce “Jodi” ; his son, Samuel (Jessica Ross) Thompson; his daughter, Sarah (Shannon Cook) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Billy Joe (Alice Faye) Thompson, and his sister, Julia (Jack) Litzelfelner.
Jim lived a life full of patience, joy, and passion. He was a devoted father, teaching Sarah and Sam the skills of fishing and golf. He even coached little league, always proud to be part of his children’s interests and growth.
Golf, however, was Jims' greatest passion. He was a founding pro at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson, where his love for the sport touched countless lives. Whether on the course or in front of the television, Jim could always be found following the game, he never missed a chance to watch, no matter who was playing.
Outside of golf, Jim enjoyed many hobbies and friendships. He owned American Ice Cream in Jackson, where his workers fondly called him “Mr. T.” His closest friends knew him by his nickname “Dago,” given by a lifelong friend who remained by his side until he passed several years ago. He also loved playing billiards with friends and savoring a cold beverage while sharing laughs. He truly lived a full and well-loved life, leaving behind countless memories for those blessed to know him.
Jim was a faithful daily member of Health Point Fitness in Jackson, going every day for years to workout and drink coffee right up until the very end. Jim had a soft spot for his beloved dog, Molly. He even purchased a rust-colored Lincoln Zephyr, affectionately dubbed the “Molly Mobile”, so the two could take rides together in style.
