Joan Elizabeth Horrell, 80, of Glennon, passed away on January 24, 2024, at her home. She was born on December 11, 1943, to the late Phillip and Erma (Trafford) Mallett in Arkansas. She was a 1962 graduate of Delta High School.
Joan Mallett and Harley Horrell were united in marriage on April 18 1964, in Glennon, MO, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. She joined the parish with her husband, and remained a lifelong member for nearly 60 years. Joan was a member of St. Anthony Ladies Sodality for many years. Joan and Harley had two children, Gary and Glen. Joan loved to spend time with her children and her husband. She was a homemaker, and took the best care of her family. Once her sons had children, Joan discovered the joy of being grandma, and she loved spoiling her grandkids.
She loved to sew, cook, clean and garden. She was always in the kitchen baking something to send home with her children and grandchildren. She canned a lot of tomato juice and made the best homemade blackberry jelly.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years: Harley Horrell of the home; two sons: Gary Horrell of Delta, MO and Glen (Rhonda) Horrell of Glennon, MO; three grandchildren: Holt Horrell, Brooke (Bailey Beggs) Horrell and Samuel Horrell. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Ed Mallett; and two sisters: Kay Preston and Diane Shackles.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Horrell, Alan Horrell, Samuel Horrell, Holt Horrell, Bailey Beggs and Johnny DeBrock.
The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Parish Prayers and Rosary will begin at 4:00 pm. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am, on January 29, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon, MO. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
