Kathleen Ann Nanney, age 68, of Leopold, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 7, 2025, at her home. She was born October 26, 1956, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Edward and Agatha (Tenholder) DeBrock. She was a graduate of Leopold High School and Southeast Missouri State University. Kathy was united in marriage to Donald Nanney on October 5, 1974. He survives of the home.
Kathy was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Leopold and was a devout participant of Adoration for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Parish Council of Catholic Women and was a former PSR teacher. She was the epitome of strength in the face of hardship and illness. Kathy was an inspiration to everyone through her faith. She believed that God had a plan for all of our futures and that He was in control.
Kathy was a devoted wife and mother that took such great pride in her family. She had a passion for traveling and had the privilege of seeing many beautiful places and sights. She positively impacted many students as a teacher at Immaculate Conception in Jackson and during her 25 years of teaching at the Leopold R-3 School District. She was known for her hands-on activities and creative learning opportunities. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her sons: Shawn Nanney of Cape Girardeau; Scott (Cassie) Nanney of Gordonville; Matthew Nanney of Jackson; daughter Erin Stump (Jeff Smith) of Centralia; Sisters Elaine (Stanley) Vandeven and Debbie (Melvin) Keith both of Leopold; grandchildren: Calli and Kate Nanney, Emma Ford; Brenner and Brecklen Nanney; Luke and Kaia Stump, Mara Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, niece Jessica Keith and nephew Christopher Vandeven, and her brother and sister-in-law Philip (Janet) DeBrock.
Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 10:00 am, with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
