Laura “Laurie” Ann Long of Glen Allen, Missouri passed away on November 10, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 50. Laurie was born on February 16, 1973 to Kenny and Diane (Conrad) Holzum at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She spent part of her childhood raised in Leopold where she attended 1st and 2nd grade at Leopold School. Laurie then attended 3rd through 12th grade at Woodland School and graduated in 1991. After one semester at Mizzou, she decided to come back home to attend SEMO where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in education. In 2018, Laurie achieved another milestone and received a Master’s Degree from William Woods University.
Laurie held a special place in many hearts through her work as a Special Education Teacher for 26 years. She was adored by all of the students she taught and loved by her co-educators. She loved being a Woodland Cardinal!
On April 3, 1993, Laurie married her high school sweetheart Dennis “DJ” Long. During their 35 years together and 30 years of marriage, the two of them had three children: Jesse, Josie and Jake. Inseparable love, resulted in DJ and Laurie doing almost everything together. They enjoyed hunting for wildlife, mushrooms, and horns. They enjoyed side by side riding by themselves, with family, and with their friends. She was fully invested in her children’s lives. She loved attending all of their sporting events and did anything for her babies. Laurie was a dedicated Granny. She adored and loved her grandchildren deeply.
Laurie along with members of her family were devoted members of the Creekside Faith Fellowship church in Marble Hill.
She is survived by her parents Kenny and Diane Holzum of Glen Allen; her husband of 30 years, Dennis “DJ” Long of Glen Allen; two sons: Jesse (Shelby) Long of Marble Hill, Jake (Taylor) Long of Marquand; one daughter: Josie (Tyler) Yount of Glen Allen; eight grandchildren: Alaina, Darcy, Chase, and Buckley Long by her first-born son, Jesse; Lane and Luke Yount by her middle child, Josie; and Brixxon and Rhett Long by her youngest son, Jake.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Ryder Yount.
Pallbearers will be her two sons, Jesse and Jake Long, followed by Danny, David and Jamie Boyer and David Armstrong.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Creekside Faith Fellowship church in Marble Hill, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Tim Zych officiating. Burial will follow at the McGee Chapel Cemetery near Glen Allen, MO. The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill is in charge of the arrangements.
