Linda Lee James, 76, of Scopus, passed away on March 28, 2025, at the Stonebridge Senior Living Facility in Marble Hill. She was born on June 17, 1948, in Woodriver, Illinois to the late C.C. “Woody” Woodring and Delores Pansie. Linda was a 1966 graduate of Woodland High School.
Linda Woodring and Jerry James were united in marriage on November 11, 1965, in Millersville at Bro. Jerry Sanders home. This couple celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage and raised three children, Dwayne, David and Angela. They attended Mount Carmel Church for 35 years and later attended Mount Zion. She loved spending time with her family. Dinners, parties, and road trips to the Amish County were always more meaningful when she had her family with her.
Linda was the definition of a Lady. She loved to go shopping and she was always put together when she went out. Linda’s devotion to the Lord, was known by all of those around her as she continued her walk of faith until her passing. She was the strongest Christian woman and entrusted these values in her family and friends.
At their kitchen table in 1974, Linda began doing taxes for several clients and business’ in the area. Throughout her 46 years of being known as “The Tax Lady”, she gained the trust of numerous local clients and some in other countries. In 1996, her daughter-in-law, Kassy, joined the family business and continues today as James Tax Service.
She is survived by her loving husband: Jerry James; sons: Dwaye “Hunchie” and Kassy James, David “Buck” and Kim James; sisters: Sue Cork, Wanda (Obed) Rhodes, Jeanie Young; grandchildren: Amber (Corey) Strain, Kyle (Annette) Mengwasser, Larry James, Kelsey Mengwasser, Kayla (Larry) Pratte, Jesse (Micayla) James, Autumm (Taylor) Ferrell; great grandchildren: Jackson, Mia, Katie, Olivia, Giuseppe, and Skye.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter: Angela; and a brother: Rex Woodring.
Services will be held at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, with Bro.’s Elijah and Joe Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
