Louise Virginia (Davis) Hughes

Louise Virginia Hughes of Marble Hill, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on March 9, 2024, at her home. She was born to the late John and Alma (Gosnell) Davis on March 13, 1929, in Birch Tree, MO.

Mrs. Louise was devoted to her faith and would express her love through song. She loved to sing and write music, and she loved to go to church. She attended Grace Fellowship in Marble Hill for a number of years. To say Louise enjoyed reading would be an understatement. She would spend countless hours reading Christian books and mystery novels. She loved to spend Thursday’s playing Phase 10 with her friends and Louise was known to “pick” at everyone around her.

Louise Davis and Everett Edward Hughes were united in marriage on January 18, 1947 in Madison, Illinois. She had spent 65 years with Everett when he preceded her in death in 2012. This marriage would bring them one daughter, Sharon, a number of grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and a big handful of great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter: Sharon (Gary) Lutes of Glen Allen; two brothers: Ronnie (Dee) Davis of Florida, Darrell (Marcia) Davis of Granite City, IL; five grandchildren: Mark (Melanie) Lutes, Junior (Misty) Maddock, Heather (Kenny) Davis, Katrina Lutes and Chris (Amanda) Lutes; twenty great grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters: Thelma Pryor, Jolene Hessling and June LeGate, who passed away a few hours before Louise; and one great grandson: Steven Taylor Chapman.

Pallbearers will be Mark, Chris, Tyler, Devon, Damian and Dominic Lutes, Junior Maddock and Daylan Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be: Josh Kester, Daniel Lutes, Trae Davis, Dawsyn and Hayden Lutes, Logan Schlosser and Jake Shands.

The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill is assisting the family with Mrs. Louise’s arrangements. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Grace Fellowship Church. Pastor Monnie Jones will officiate the service. Burial will follow next to her late husband, at McGee Chapel Cemetery.
