Mattie Jann Obituary

Mattie Ruth Jann, 88, of Glen Allen, passed away at her home on March, 5, 2024. She was born on December 28, 1935, to the late Orion and Lettie Mae (Williams) Lawson in Ripley, TN.

Mattie worked in the cotton fields in her younger years. She worked for 25 years as a United States Postal Carrier. She was a factory worker at a number of places where she built air conditioners, cabinets, and glass jars. Mattie had many professions, and was very spirited in whatever the job at hand was.

Mattie and George Jann were married for 46 years upon his passing in 2015. She was a housewife, homemaker, and dance partner with her husband. They enjoyed going on car rides and going to the dance halls every week. They hosted dinner parties at their home for their neighbors and friends.

She loved to talk and tell stories with everyone around her. Mattie was a socialite and didn’t like to spend time alone. She saw the best in everyone and always brought a smile to the face of those around her. Mattie had a parrot “Smokey” and a dog “Sissy” that she adored.

She is survived by her son in law: Wayne Lawson; one step sister: Larue Head; her grandchildren: Paul (Candace) Lawson and Brenda Basick; two great grandchildren: Tristan and Carter Lawson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband George and her first husband Tommy Taylor; her daughters: Debra and Janice; one great grandchild: Shelly Lawson; three brothers; one sister; one niece.
