Michael "Mike" Junior Garland

Michael Junior “Mike” Garland, 63, of Scopus, Missouri, passed away on Thursday September 28, 2023, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mike was born on August 19, 1960, to the late James and Betty Sue (Long) Garland Jr., in Advance, Missouri. 

Mike worked as a truck driver for most of his life, hauling logs. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls, lawn mowers races and rodeos. He was the women’s softball coach for over 10 years in Marble Hill. He loved to spend time with his family, and spoil his grandkids.

On May 27, 1979, in Scopus, Missouri, Mike and Rebecca "Becky" Evans were united in marriage, under the shade tree at his parents’ house. Mike and Becky had three children: Josh, Shane and Tiffany. They attended the Lutesville General Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Becky; two sons: Josh (Christina) Garland of Rainsville, AL, Shane (Yvonne) Garland of Perryville, MO; one daughter: Tiffany (Geneo) Dry of Puxico, MO; one brother: Stephen (Nancy) Garland of Marble Hill, MO; one sister: Glenda Sue Yount of Patton, MO; six grandchildren: Charlize and Michael Dry, Porter Little, Brandon Thorn, Brittany Hamlin; four great grandchildren: Montana, Holly, Trenton and Kenneth Harper; many cousins, and a countless number of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandchild: Charlie Dry.

Mike always had a smile or quick pick to make everyone laugh. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be: Charlize and Mikie Dry, Nathan and Gage Yount, Brent and Seth Garland.

Services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Missouri. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM. Bro.’s Iain Long and Jerry Stevens will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the James Cemetery near Scopus, Missouri.
