Oda “Bud” Leroy Douglas, 71, of Marble Hill, gained his heavenly wings on December 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at his home. Bud was born on July 17, 1952, to the late Oda George Edward and Anna Mae (Cook) Douglas in Sedgewickville, MO.
He worked as a logger for his entire career, locally and out of state. He helped at the local saw mills on occasion, but the log woods are where he longed to be. He enjoyed going fishing and he liked to hunt for squirrel, deer and turkey. He was an outdoorsman, from the hunting to shooting skeet to digging roots. One of Bud’s pastimes was watching westerns on tv.
On July 20, 1973, in Marble Hill, MO, Oda “Bud” Douglas and Doris Cook were united in marriage at her parent’s house, by Bud’s grandfather, Elzie “Big Dad” Cook. This couple became one and remained hand in hand for 50 years. In 1998, Bud and Doris renewed their vows at the Hurricane Fork Church, where they attended church for 40 years. This marriage brought them the blessing of one son, Tony. After Tony’s marriage to his wife, Sherry, they found the great joy of becoming grandparents to Jasper and Austin. As the family tradition of racing lawn mowers came into their lives, Bud was often seen at the mower races watching his wife, son and grandsons race their mowers. Bud sure loved to spend time with his family.
Bud discovered one of his best friends in his later years and was saved by his Lord, Jesus Christ. He loved to spend time at church, listen to the preaching, hear the songs and seeing a lost soul won. He and Doris attended New Bethel Congregational Methodist, where they were members.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris Douglas; one son: Tony (Sherry) Douglas; two sisters: Janet (Jerry) Howell, Brenda Kirkpatrick; two grandchildren: Jasper Douglas and Austin Brotherton; seven nieces and nephews: Nute, Buck, Roger, Bubby, Missi, Doug and Rich; his mother-in-law: Edna Cook; many relatives and friends; and his dog: “Peaches”.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Allen “Butch” Douglas; one sister: Linda (James) Lincoln; and one nephew: Mike Douglas.
Pallbearers will be Nute, Buck and Roger Lincoln, Bubby Howell, Doug Douglas, Rich Kirkpatrick, Jasper Douglas and Austin Brotherton. Honorary pallbearers will be Janet and Jerry Howell, Brenda Kirkpatrick and Missi and Kevin Rhodes.
Services will be held at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm, with Bro. Kevin Stroup officiating. Burial will follow at the Hurricane Fork Cemetery, near Scopus, MO.
