Richard Crader, 89, of Marble Hill, MO, born August 11, 1934 in Lorance Township, MO, died on October 4, 2023 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. A Korean War Veteran, Richard proudly served nine years (1952-1961) in the United States Navy earning both the Navy Occupation and National Defense service medals. His time in the USN allowed him a rare distinction of crossing both the Arctic and Antarctic Circles in support of Operation Deep Freeze. After his service, Richard was known as a barber, furniture craftsman and construction craft laborer. He retired in 1999 as a foreman with the Laborers’ International Union of North America out of the Local 42 in St. Louis, MO. In the years following retirement Richard enjoyed raising small farm animals, gardening, taking care of his yard, watching NASCAR, following the STL Cardinals, caring for his beloved dogs and especially spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, paw paw and brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lilbourn and Pearl (nee West) Crader, a sister, Danette Farmer, a son, Ryan Crader and a grandson, Jack Crader.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ramona “Sue” (nee Bollinger) Crader, whom he married on October, 15, 1966; two sons, Matt (Sarah) Crader of Ballwin, MO and Sean (Meredith) Crader of O’Fallon, IL; two granddaughters, Olivia Crader and Lily Crader; along with six siblings, Darlene Sniff, Charlotte Heggemeir, and Betty Menz of Hasty, CO, Jackie (Glen) Seiler of Marble Hill, MO, Bonnie (Rodney) Conrad of Glen Allen, MO, and Larry Crader of Hickory, MS.
The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO are in charge of the arrangements. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, October 11. 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the Cook Cemetery, off Hwy B, just north of Scopus, MO. Cemetery is located behind the Scopus Church of Christ.
