Robert "Bob" Lindell Flannery

Robert Lindell Flannery, 85, of Jackson, MO, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hickory Grove, MO, on September 18, 1937, to the late William Ira and Versie Mae (Riehn) Flannery.

Bob was in the 82nd Airbourne of the United States Army. He was in the service from 1956 to 1959, when he received his honorable discharge.

He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for 50 years, with the Local 513 Operating Engineers. Bob owned and operated Flannery Fur, Hide and Root Company for 48 years. He traveled throughout the lower 48 states all the way into Canada with his hide company.  He raised cattle and farmed his whole life. Bob was a hard-working man, who believed if you wanted something, you had to work for it. “The world doesn’t owe you a thing”, Bob said. When he wasn’t working, he loved to go frog gigging, coon hunting, deer hunting and fishing with his friends and family.

Robert had a huge heart to say the least. He would help anyone in need, and wouldn’t hesitate. He never held a grudge for anything.

Robert and Loyce Proffer were united in marriage in Whitewater, MO, on July 18, 1959. There were married for nearly 64 years. Loyce and Bob had three children: Douglas, Timothy and Joy. His children, grandchildren and his wife, meant the world to him.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Loyce; two sons: Timothy (Cindy) Flannery or Marble Hill, MO, Douglas Flannery of Whitewater, MO; one daughter: Joy (Mark) Owens of Jackson, MO; two grandchildren: Bridgett (Justin) Green of Whitewater, MO, Robert Arland Flannery of Burfordville, MO; two great grandchildren: Emma and Rees; one sister-in-law: Joyce Proffer; and numerous friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: William Flannery; and one daughter in law: Kay Flannery.

Pallbearers will be: Robert Flannery, Tony Cook, Bill Cobb, Charlie Dublin, David Youngblood and Jeff Peters.

Services will be held at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with Bro. Kevin Mills officiating.  Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, MO.

Bob wanted everyone to know, “anyone who shows up better be in work clothes and boots, ready to work.”
