Shelby Ann James, age 78, of Marble Hill, Missouri, passed away on November 3, 2025, at Stonebridge Senior Living in Marble Hill. She was born on February 16, 1947, in Marquand, Missouri, to the late Fred and Delores (Spain) Gibbs.
Shelby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She married the love of her life, John Larry James, on February 27, 1964, and together they shared 50 wonderful years together before his passing on October 15, 2014. Shelby was happiest when spending time with John, whether fishing together or working in their garden. She had a special love for flowers and took great pride in her garden’s beauty.
Shelby worked for many years as a CNA, where she cared deeply for those she helped. Her compassion and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She attended Church of Christ for several years and lived her life with kindness, faith, and a heart for others.
She adored her family above all else and especially loved spoiling her grandbabies every chance she got.
She is survived by her son, Johnnie (Charlene) James; daughters, Dawn (David) Womack and Sheila (Mike) Evans; brothers, Harold (Lauren) Gibbs and Jimmy (Barbara) Gibbs; sister, Tina (Kenny) Burchard; grandchildren, David Jr., Norman, John, Mark, Robert, Jill, Noal (Eldon), Josh, Dakota, and Amber; great-grandchildren, Luke, Norah, Kalani, Millie, Kaylee, Hailey, Waylen, Case, Levi, Bentley, Ryker, Holden, Jamon, Jarid, Weston, Zaylee, Alissa, Ariana, and Kaylyn; and one great-great-grandchild, Havyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Don James; brothers, Ronnie and Jerry Gibbs; and great-grandchild, Oaklynn.
A service will be held at Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, MO on Friday, November 7, 2025. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm with Funeral Service beginning at 1:00pm, officiated by Kenny Burchard. Burial to follow at Cook Cemetery.
