Wayne Long Obituary

Elzie Duane “Wayne” Long, 65, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Nov. 7, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  Born in Advance, Mo., on Sept 11, 1955, he was the son of Elzie and Mary Susan Cook Long.  He and Donna L. Morgan were married on June 26, 1976.  She survives.

Wayne worked for 30 years as a gravedigger and all-purpose maintenance worker for Liley Funeral Homes. His trade skills included carpentry, machinist, heavy equipment operator and dependability.

He retired in 2017 and began his favorite job of being a grandpa.  He and his grandchildren were avid fishermen.  He was a faithful member of Hurricane Fork General Baptist Church since 1981, and an ordained Deacon since 1990. 

He is survived by his wife, Donna; by three sons:  Chad (Ashley) Long, Justin (Ashley) Long, and Cody (Amy) Long, all of Marble Hill; by three brothers:  Dave (Stacey) Long, Brad Long, and Wendell Long, all of Marble Hill; two sisters:  Rose (Bill) Welker) of Fenton, Mo., and Kay (Tim) Meek of Marble Hill; and by 16 grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Hurricane Fork Baptist Church near Patton.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kyle Long officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hurricane Fork Cemetery.  Hutchings Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
