William Edward Tackett, 77, of Sturdivant, Missouri passed away on January 20, 2026, at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born in Zalma, Missouri on April 18, 1948, to the late William M. and Ruby (Jackson) Tackett.
William worked as a farmhand, laid flooring, and worked as a cook on the river boat. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish, always enjoyed the peace out in the field or at the river banks. He liked to search the fields for arrowheads, always looking for that hidden treasure of the past. He was a handyman, and did things the way he wanted it done. Of all the treasures of the world, his greatest was his grandchildren. The smile on their faces always made him light up with joy.
Survivors include his children: Greg (LaNena) Tackett, Jeremy (Brandee) Tackett, Alan (Sonya) Tackett, Richard Tackett, Dennis Tackett, Cole Younger, Layla Tackett, Jennifer (John) Vaughn, Susan (Chris) Elsworth; siblings: Robert (Katie) Tackett, Frankie Tackett, Raygene (Rayla) Tackett, Jimmy Tackett, Mary Rogers, and Bonnie Wolfenkoehler; grandchildren: Carter, Carson, Journey, Sierra, Dara, Tara, Kierra, Zoie, Sasha, Bailey, Kayden, Kacie, Kayla, Logan, Kelby, Deveron and one on the way, Raelynn; great grandchildren: Wrenley, Raiden, Keeston, Kaisen, Noah, Bentley, Bryson, Isaiah, Jacey, Everly, and two on the way. Many nieces and nephews and other family member and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Barbara Jean, Barbara Sue, Deloris, Joie and Johnny Tackett, nephew: Robert Kelly Tackett, grandchild Sophia.
The Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel is helping with family with William’s final wishes. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
