Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel was founded January 1, 2023, when Eric Pendergrass purchased Hutchings Funeral Chapel (Hutchings Family Memorial Group, Inc.) from Marian and Charles Hutchings. The Hutchings' purchased the Baker Funeral Home in 1996.
Baker Funeral Home began in 1926 with A.J. Baker, who was said to be Luteseville's first undertaker to embalm. He attended Hoppe Embalming School in St. Louis, MO. A.J. Baker ran Baker Funeral Home until the time of his death in 1959. After his death, A.J's daughter, Geneva, who was married T.E. (Mike) Graham, who helped part time for her father at the funeral home, took over and ran Baker Funeral Home. Mike attended Hohenschuh-Carpenter Embalming College in St. Louis, MO. Mike and Geneva's son, Eddie Graham took over the funeral home and ran Baker Funeral Home until the mid 1980's, when Neil G. purchased the funeral home, and operated until 1996, when the Hutchings' family went into operation. Marian and Charles Hutchings, along with her brother Joe (Vicki) Seiler ran the funeral home until Joe and Vicki sold their portion to Marian and Charles, who operated until December 31, 2022.
